Since a T-1 can be used for many different types of services, many telecommunications carriers will use a T-1 to deliver voice services to their customers.  To do this, they separate the 1.544Mbps of data into 24 channels of 64kbps.  These 24 channels operate independently and allows the carrier to deliver 24 concurrent phone conversations over the T-1.  This process can be an economical and reliable method for delivering voice services to their customers.
